What is Islam?
Islam is a religion based on believing in and submitting to the one God; the creator who created us and all other beings, and created the heavens and earth.
Islamic teachings and rulings were transferred to us by God’s Arabian prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him), who lived in the 7th century in Mecca (Which is now part of Saudi Arabia).
The Qur’an is the holy book for Muslims, it is the word of God which was revealed to prophet Mohammad through the angel Gabriel.
The two main and only sources of rulings for Muslims are: the Qur’an, and the prophet’s teachings (Called Sunnah in Arabic).
Even though prophet Mohammad was an Arab, Islam was sent to all humanity, as God has said in the Qur’an: {We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ only as a mercy for the whole world} [Al-Anbya:107]
The crucial difference between Islam and the other religions is that Muslims believe in the one God who has no competitors, while others believe in competitors to God or that power is divided among multiple entities (Such as the Trinity in Christianity).
In Islam, anyone who believes in any sorts of idolatry or polytheism will go to Hell for eternity, and will never be rewarded Paradise, as God has said in the Qur’an: {Surely Allah does not forgive associating ˹others˺ with Him ˹in worship˺, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. Indeed, whoever associates ˹others˺ with Allah has clearly gone far astray} [Al-Nisa’:116]
